This may be my third time as a finalist for the Calgary Folk Festival's Songwriting Contest but it never gets old...
"Me, The Fool" was selected for this year's Pros and Prose contest. The finals will be taking place on May 6th at the Ship & Anchor pub in Calgary from 12-4 pm.

This March has been one of the most exciting months!
I started out this month by seeing a great Calgarian - Michael Bernard Fitzgerald - play at Edmonton's Starlite Room. He always puts on a fabulous show!
Then, I played my very first solo gig opening for Edmontonian Karl Andriuk at the Haven Social Club.
A couple weeks later I got to share a bill with my very best friend, Vicky Berg at Accent Lounge. We played to a full house!
Now, I've just returned from my road trip to Calgary to play at the Blind Beggar Pub with my band. I got some family-visit time during the day, which included seeing my 6 month old niece for the second time, and then played to a packed club. Great fun!
And right around the corner is the event of the year, Ben Folds playing with the Edmonton Symphony! Ben Folds has been my favourite artist for at least 8 or 9 years now. I've covered about 10 or so of his songs throughout my singing career. My band and I learned "Kate" for the Calgary gig and it was a blast to sing. And he, my musical idol, will be in Edmonton at the Winspear Centre (where I have played before) this Thursday. I couldn't be more excited!
And spring is just around the corner! What a glorious month!

I'm as proud as a plum! That's a thing, right?
Last night I played my very first gig accompanying myself on guitar (joined by my bassist Keith Rempel). I was nervous as soup (that's a thing, right?) but it went better than I could have expected! Keep an eye on the site as I may add some video from last night's performance.
If you missed my guitaring debut, there will be more where that came from and hopefully I'll see you there!

I was very excited to find out that not one, but TWO of my songs (Chasing Metaphors & Bottle of Wine) were played by Katherine Duncan on her CBC Radio One program, Key of A which features music by Alberta artists.
If you happen to hear my music played on the radio, let me know. That sort of news just makes my day!
