Growing up in Calgary, Alberta, Lauren Busheikin began performing at an early age. She got her start at the age of seven as a member of The Young Canadians of the Calgary Stampede. For eleven years, Lauren was singing and dancing in front of thousands of people at the Grandstand Show put on annually at the Calgary Stampede.
At age fourteen, Lauren began taking private singing lessons, focusing on classical and operatic music. She continued to sing classical music but also branched out into more contemporary music during her high school years.
After a year studying science following high school, Lauren realized her true passion was in performance, and was accepted the following year into Grant MacEwan’s music program in Edmonton, Alberta. She spent the next two years earning a diploma which focused on contemporary performance styles ranging from jazz and latin to rock and pop. During her time at Grant McEwan, she was a member of the MacEwan jazz choir and the Grant MacEwan/UofA jazz band. In May 2006, she sang with the jazz band at the 1800+ capacity Winspear Center for Music, performing during MacEwan’s four convocation ceremonies. After graduating, Lauren took an additional year of studies at the college to focus on composition and songwriting.
After completing her studies, Lauren began performing around Edmonton as a jazz singer. Performing as a trio or quartet, she sings an assortment of jazz, latin, blues, and pop songs in restaurants and clubs as well as private functions.
Now, she is very excited to have just released We Love, her debut album! Lauren met with producer Russell Broom back in July 2010 and started recording in the fall of 2010. All the songs on her album are original compositions by Lauren; a cool blend of pop, blues, jazz, and folk. Click on the player below to listen to some tracks from her album.
On thing for certain is that Lauren is soon to be making her mark on the Canadian independent music scene. She was recognized as a finalist at the 2009 and 2011 Calgary Folk Festival Songwriting Contests. In 2010, she received a recording grant from Rawlco Radio to assist in recording her album. Lauren's music and artistry will take her audience by surprise - she is an act you won't want to miss!
